Change and Renewal

Change and renewal are themes in life, aren’t they? We keep growing throughout life. – Susan Minot

Change is good; when followed by renewal it is even better.

Intellectually, this always made sense to me; emotionally, I was not so sure. Especially when Fear was around. Sometimes, however, I ignored Fear and took a leap of faith.

In dental school, I learned that technological advances, patient education and awareness, and the widespread increase in the number of people seeking regular dental care were causing monumental changes in the practice of dentistry.

Following on the heels of these promising changes, however, came bigger and more expensive offices, bigger and more expensive staffs, and bigger and more expensive malpractice premiums.

I was a dentist, but I soon discovered that I also needed to be an accountant, a lawyer, and an office manager. Like many of my colleagues, I was overwhelmed by the rapidly increasing changes occurring in our profession. In 1988, at the age of forty, I began to reevaluate my practice and initiate some changes. – Excerpt from “I’m Afraid”

I offer these thoughts for your consideration.

Welcome to my world!

The saga continues in my next blog.
