Patience is an Eternal Struggle.

Patience is a virtue, and I am learning patience. It’s a tough lesson. – Elon Musk

I have learned, and continue to learn, the many meanings of Patience.

But what, then, is a Virtue?

It, too, has many meanings: goodness, righteousness, and morality.

Virtue also connotes Dignity: self-respect, pride, and self-esteem.

In this sense, my Virtue was being assaulted on all flanks.

Patience is a virtue.

I’ve heard that so many times in my life.

Waiting in a movie line,

Waiting for summer vacation,

Waiting to pin the tail on the donkey.

In the last ten months,

Patience has taken on

New Meanings.

Waiting for the hiccups to stop,

Twenty-four hours a day.

Waiting for my eyes to focus,

So at least I can read.

Waiting for my muscles to regain

Any semblance of control,

So I can speak, or write, or in any way

Communicate with those I love.

Waiting for the catheter to come out,

So I can urinate like a man.

Balancing on the bedpan,

While I try to move my bowels.

Waiting for the nurse to return,

To clean me like a child.

Waiting desperately to use the toilet,

Six feet

Or, is it six miles away?

Waiting for more tests,

Even longer, for the results. – Excerpt from “I’m Afraid”

I offer these thoughts for your consideration.

Welcome to my World!

The saga continues in my next blog.

Do Not Be Afraid!!!
