Cheerfulness, it would appear, is a matter which depends fully as much on the state of things within, as on the state of things without and around us. – Charlotte Bronte
I used this quote in a previous blog; it is relevant again regarding my thoughts today.
Good humor or cheerfulness can be incited in me by many outside sources: my own and my wife’s achievements, spending time with good friends, or an inspirational book or movie.
These and other things that bring pleasure and satisfaction into my life provide good humor quickly and easily.
It is when I am impatient, annoyed, sad, or angry, when good humor is a conscious effort long in coming and difficult to achieve from within.
This is why Good Humor was an essential step on my ladder.
A sense of humor has been my saving grace through many of life’s ordeals, but good humor was a more difficult state of mind and spirit to achieve and maintain. It meant being aware of others and their needs, being cooperative, understanding, and compassionate, especially when I preferred to be selfish.
Being of good humor and cheer was a wonderful state to be in, but I often needed a road map to find it. I slipped, clung to, and fell off the third step more times than I like to admit.
I offer these thoughts for your consideration.
Communication, I believe, is the key to understanding one another.
Consequently, I encourage you to share your thoughts and opinions regarding my blogs by posting them at the bottom of the blog page marked: Leave a Reply.
