Help me to journey beyond the familiar and into the unknown. Give me the faith to leave old ways and break fresh ground with You. – St. Brendan
Thinking and writing about the ladder I envisioned encouraged me to set aside the familiar and take a step into the unknown, a realm in which I often felt uncomfortable and fearful.
It also inspired me to seek God in a way that I never before imagined.
I am a poor student. It has taken me many years to listen, even more to learn. My ladder took more than a decade to construct. I must confess that it was not a labor of love; it was an instrument of survival.
God decided that the ladder was a good learning tool for me, one that I needed to attempt to climb every day, and carry with me wherever I went. Because I am a slow learner, He decided to give me other tools to help me along the path I had chosen, the path to a better understanding and closer relationship with Him.
One day, while I was wrestling with Fear and losing, God handed me an artichoke, figuratively speaking of course. – Excerpt from “I’m Afraid”
The idea of the ladder and its construction provided me with a new, fascinating, and enticing concept of the Almighty.
I did not know if the ladder was the end of the lesson or the beginning.
The artichoke completely baffled me.
I offer these thoughts for your consideration.
Communication, I believe, is the key to understanding one another.

Do Not Be Afraid!!!
What a thought provoking question,! I like the idea of the ladder as a beginning since we may miss a step on that ladder but hopefully just keep trying and climbing upward. Love it
