I think that hell essentially is separation from God forever. And that is the worst hell I can think of. But I think people have a hard time believing God is going to allow people to burn in literal fire forever. I think the fire that is mentioned in the Bible is a burning thirst for God that can never be quenched. – Billy Graham
I came across the above quote about a week ago; it prompted me to select the following extract from my memoir.
When I am judged, if God chooses to banish me from His sight, I can only imagine my suffering. But if I have the opportunity to be with Him and refuse, because of anger and pride, my suffering would be unimaginable.
In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus offers a description of those in hell:
‘Where their worm dies not, and the fire is not quenched.’
- Mark 9:43
I know too well the consuming fire of anger, resentment, and hatred; and the twisting, gnawing worm of remorse and regret.
Enduring this torture for even a day would be unbearable; to endure it for an eternity is incomprehensible.
I have been angry many times in my life and inevitably regretted it. But the possibility of turning my back on God elicited emotions so strong in me that, like the Jews in biblical times who rent their garments out of anger or grief, I felt compelled not only to tear my shirt, but to rip open my chest with my bare hands and tear out my heart.
The experience was intensely vivid, terrifying, and enlightening. It was a profound understanding of my fear and love of God. – Excerpt from “I’m Afraid”
What is hell?
This is a provocative question with no definitive answer; it is, however, a source of endless debate.
In this blog, I have presented two opinions.

I offer these thoughts for your consideration.
Communication, I believe, is the key to understanding one another.
