Fear is a wonderful teacher and a lousy master. – Lolly Daskal
Fear can be a dominating, threatening, constraining force capable of making one’s life virtually unbearable if left unchallenged, and failing to seek out and identify its cause.
Although there have been, and still are, many reasons for me to cross paths with Fear and his children, two specific sources stand out.
It seemed as if I spent a lifetime struggling with fear, but I never imagined the power, intimidation, and control it possessed. Not until manic depression and cerebellitis entered my life.
My two manic and depressive episodes were dramatically intense encounters with fear, but they were only an introduction.
It was cerebellitis that transformed a passing acquaintance into an intimate relationship, a relationship in which I discovered the many faces and children of Fear.
Manic depression and cerebellitis disabled me physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, and then they did a very strange thing. They invited Fear and all of its children into my home and tried to teach me how to get along with them. – Excerpts from “I’m Afraid”
Ironically, the two things accountable for introducing me to Fear and all of his children also aided me in combating them.
I offer these thoughts for your consideration.
